Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 September 2026
MedLingo is a Medical Spanish learning app for healthcare workers. This policy describes what the app does with information, in plain terms. The short version: the app has no account, no ads and no analytics, and everything you learn stays on your phone. The one thing that leaves your device, and only when you choose to use it, is a voice recording for the pronunciation check.
What we collect
Nothing. MedLingo has no user accounts and does not collect names, e-mail addresses, phone numbers, location, device identifiers, usage statistics or crash reports. We have no server that your app talks to.
What stays on your phone
Your learning progress — completed scenarios, scores, streaks, vocabulary and flashcard schedule, favourites, settings — is stored only on your device, in a database encrypted with SQLCipher using a key held in the Android Keystore. It is never uploaded. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
Microphone and pronunciation check
Some screens offer a microphone button to check your pronunciation of a Spanish phrase. This is optional, and the app asks for microphone permission only when you first tap it.
When you use it, MedLingo hands your recording to the speech recognizer built into your phone — on most Android phones this is Google's speech service — and receives the recognized text back, exactly as voice typing does. Depending on your phone and settings, that service may send the audio to its provider's servers; it is governed by that provider's privacy policy (for Google, policies.google.com/privacy). MedLingo itself does not store, transmit or keep recordings, and compares the recognized text to the expected phrase only on your device.
If you never tap the microphone, no audio is recorded and nothing you say leaves your phone.
Audio playback
Patient lines and phrases are played from audio files bundled inside the app. Where a bundled recording is unavailable, the app may use your phone's own text-to-speech engine, which runs on the device.
In-app purchases
Unlocking all scenarios is a one-time purchase processed by Google Play Billing. Google handles the payment and applies its own privacy policy to the transaction; MedLingo never sees your payment details. To do this, the Play Billing library included in the app communicates with Google Play on your device. We do not include any analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
Notifications
If you enable practice reminders, they are scheduled and shown entirely on your device.
Children
MedLingo is intended for adult healthcare professionals and students and is not directed at children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the current version is always the one linked from the app's Google Play listing.
